Drink Brewed Tea to Avoid Tooth Erosion

You may want to reconsider reaching for a soft drink or sugar-laden fruit drink the next time you're in the mood for a beverage. Other than the high caloric content of such drinks, these drinks can have a profoundly damaging effect on your tooth enamel. The culprits - citric acid and sugar. The average soft drink currently contains approximately 17 grams of sugar. That's a tad more sugar than is found in 4 sugar cubes! Yuck. What's even more alarming as far as I'm concerned is that many soft drinks and fruit drinks contain citric acid. Citric acid is more erosive than hydrochloric and sulfuric acid - that's battery acid for those of you who didn't know...

Sour Candy Equals Battery Acid?

I know, I know. To some of you, I'm playing the part of the scrooge, only a few months early this year. I can assure you that I don't advocate abolishing Halloween, or even aboloshing handing out candy on Halloween. Let's be serious, I'm not an absolutist. But, I do think it's wise for us to take an extra 10 seconds to think about the types of candy we're placing in our shopping carts when stocking up for the Trick-Or-Treaters.

Top 4 Tooth Whitening Products

Let's face it, people are pretty judgmental by nature. It may be the way someone talks, their weight, their walk - whatever. But, think for a moment about what you typically notice first about a person. I'm willing to bet that many of you say - a person's smile. Apparently, with the tooth whitening craze that began several years ago, I'm probably not far off. With this craze, of course, tooth whitening products began flooding the market.

StarSmileZ Plak-Posse Palz Review

It has been a little while since my last product review, so I figure I'm about due. Like most of my past product reviews, I was contacted by a company rep interested in having their product reviewed. On this particular occasion, I was contacted by a rep at Paragon International, which is a company that develops and distributes oral health training products. Since I haven't reviewed any teaching aids in the past, I figured this would be a great item to share with you - so the rep was nice enough to ship the product to me...

Is Do-It-Yourself Dentistry a Good Idea?

Of course it's not. I could end this post on that note, but I found a great video illustrating my point. This video is not for the squeamish, so let that be a warning. For the rest of you, have a look, and see how a growing number of people the world over are dealing with increasing dental care costs and loss of insurance coverage...

The Poor Have Fewer Teeth Study Says

A study recently conducted by the National Survey of Adult Oral Health in Australia confirms that personal wealth is a major factor in determining the health of teeth. You may be saying, "duh". But, until now there has been little more than empirical evidence to suggest such a relationship.

Avril Lavigne to Get Vampire Teeth Removed

Each Sunday I will be writing about a wacky or wierd dental-related news story I've come across on the internet. If you'll remember, back when I started Dental Heroes I promised to include some content that lightens up the dental care discussion a little bit, and I think Sunday posts will do just that. Avril Lavigne to get vampire teeth removed You may think that

If you’ve been following the Dental Heroes blog for a while now, you’ve probably noticed my freestyle approach to topic selection.
