About a week ago I received an e-mail from a Sara at an organization called “The Fresh Air Fund” asking me to spread the word about their cause. While this isn’t what you might expect on a dental blog, what can I say, I’m a sucker for good causes!

Who is The Fresh Air Fund

A not-for-profit agency, has provided free summer experiences in the country to more than 1.7 million New York City children from disadvantaged communities. Each year, thousands of children visit volunteer host families in 13 states and Canada through the Friendly Town Program or attend Fresh Air Fund camps(FreshAir.org).

Naturally, not-for-profit organizations such as The Fresh Air Fund rely heavily, if not solely on fundraising and donations. That’s where Dental Heroes readers, and anyone for that matter can help. Sara specifically wanted to draw attention to the upcoming New York City Half-Marathon. Last year, Fresh Air Fund racers raised more than $125,000 to help the agency fund memorable summer experiences for thousands of children.

This year, The Fresh Air Fund hopes to raise even more money for disadvantaged children. However, The Fresh Air Fund is still looking for runners and sponsors to join our Fresh Air Fund-Racers team for the NYC Half-Marathon on August 16th. Friendly Town hosts are also needed for next month.
