It’s time for another installment of “cool dental links“. The links are still “cool”, but I’m going to change the name to “Weekend Dental Links” because, you guessed it, I’ll be featuring them on the weekends. I’m only human, so I like to relax a bit on the weekends, and this should give you some reading material while you’re hopefully relaxing on the weekends as well. So, without further ado…

As much as I try to avoid celebrity talk on Dental Heroes(plenty of other blogs for that, right?), I couldn’t pass up telling you about a quiz I just found on the ABC News website called, “Guess the Celebrity Smile”.

Some of you may remember a post I wrote a while back titled “5 Fantastic Dental Blogs You Should Be Reading.” With all of the great dental blogs out there these days, I think it’s time to add to the list.

Lets face it, you may like smokeless tobacco, but smokeless tobacco HATES your mouth. This, despite the message Major League Baseball players are trying to sell you. In fact, you may be surprised to find out that chew contains more than 2,000 chemicals – many that have been directly linked to causing cancer(quittobacco.com). Furthermore, it has been shown that chew users have an oral cancer rate several times higher than that of non-tobacco users.

Let’s face it, people are pretty judgmental by nature. It may be the way someone talks, their weight, their walk – whatever. But, think for a moment about what you typically notice first about a person.

I’m willing to bet that many of you say – a person’s smile. Apparently, with the tooth whitening craze that began several years ago, I’m probably not far off. With this craze, of course, tooth whitening products began flooding the market.

You’ve probably noticed that in the last couple of days the site has begun to look a little different. I’ve started what I consider to be a “phased-redesign”. I know that’s typically not the best way to re-design a site, but there were some things I just couldn’t wait to change. I have a long way to go, but it’ll be well worth it. In the meantime, however, everything will remain fully-functional, and I will continue to write posts. So, you have no excuse to stay away

I don’t know how many of you are fans of the 90’s hit TV show, Married with Children, but I came across a funny clip the other day that I thought I would share with you. Be forewarned, if you’re not familiar with the show, that it’s far from politically-correct. So, if you’re easily offended, you probably won’t find it funny. Personally, I find it hilarious.

You may remember that the first part of this series was written back in May, and appropriately titled, “How to find a dentist“. In that post, I referenced the guidelines and recommendations for finding a dentist as recommended by the American Dental Association(ADA). That post focused on the signs you should be looking for prior to visiting a dentist. In this post, I’ll reference tips provided by the guys over at Quack Watch for evaluating your dentist – to ensure that you have found a good one.
